LZWolf is different from ECWolf as it builds on top of ECWolf, adding more features and ideas for modding according to what is popular in the community, and needs of modders. They're still in their infancy, but offer the same philosophy of soft-modding and utilizing scripting instead of coding. These two engines are built on Wolf4SDL, but utilizes ideas and code from zDoom. If you do find GZDoom friendly for you, ECWolf/ LZWolf might be the answer. For the passed couple of weeks the forum has been having issues but once it's back up, DHW is the primary source to answer most of your questions in the 19 years it's been running *someone* will have had a similar issue. There's an array of tutorials for adding features available on the DieHard Wolfer's message boards. Most standalone Wolf3D mods from the past 10(?) years have been on this engine. Wolf4SDL is the main traditional port of the game, running on Windows and open source.
There are two primary source ports if you want to make a mod that has gameplay changes that deviate from Wolfenstein Wolf4SDL, and ECWolf/LZWolf.
